Barnes ANGB "On Scene" Report
Spent some time today (3/31/07) at KBAF (approx 1000 to 1117 hrs local).
OBSERVED MILITARY AERO ACTION:
SABER 1 & 2 (A10's): Take Off
JAVA 1 &2 (A10's): Take Off
HAWK 1 & 2 (A10's): Take off
AERO FREQUENCIES ACTIVE:
Ground Control: 121.7/289.4
Tower: 118.9/251.1
ATIS: 127.1
KBDL A/D: 125.35/325.8
KZBW: 338.2
Five Star Aviation (FBO): 130.625
Others: (Could hear the base side transmitters): 132.65 (KZBW) & 123.95, 127.8 (KBDL), 134.85(KCEF)
MILITARY TACTICAL AERO FREQS ACTIVE:
139.9 (Saber), 141.675 (Hawk), 143.825 (Java).Also when they were up in Yankee MOA, I could hear HAWK & others (including JUDGE 1) talking with BATTLE STAR on 138.25, male operator had a British accent. Passing coded messages, etc.
BASE LMR SUPPORT RADIO NETS:
Searched for entire time on scene (138-144, 148-150.8 mhz), only 148.45R P25 Security & 149.6875 P25 (which I believe may be the new FD freq) was active. I also briefly search the 380-400, 400-420 mhz band with no local activity found (and kept the 996 in Close Call Capture mode most of the time). I was disappointed with the results found since this was my primary interest during this visit.
MONITORING LOCATION/RELOCATION:
I initially started off at the Civilian Airport Administration/Terminal building (they are still in the old facility BUT the new one looks completely built to me), BUT found that there was severe inteference (primarily from the ATIS 127.1 BUT also from Towr 118.9 & Ground 121.7 ) when trying to monitor/scan various freqs throughout the spectrum. So I relocated to the east side of the field just south of airport Gate 24 (Airport Industrial Park Rd which is off of Route 202) in a grass area across the road from the airport perimeter security fence. This eliminated all of the interference at the terminal building side & provided an excellent view of the Air National Guard area, as well as a view of the major runway (looking south). Did not have any problems parking at that location.

Overall it was great to get out for a bit, and hopefully spring has arrived here in the Northeast!
